The Economy & Heritage Working Group
The Economy and Heritage Group is working closely with the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development on the renovation of the old Silkolene Warehouse, now known as Great Bow Yard, for community and office use.
The STSD has built 12 homes behind the warehouse building using
the latest environmentally sustainable building techniques and materials. All
houses are now sold and occupied. STSD are now in the process of renovating the
Great Bow Yard warehouse. It is envisaged that commercial and
leisure will be combined. The project should complete in late summer this year
when STSD itself will occupy some of the offices there. A cafe will also be
included in the space.
Next to the warehouse is the site of the old Stuckey and Bagehot harbour. It is
hoped that this can be dredged and re-opened to make a attractive vista to the
entrance to Langport. It may be possible to for this to be the base for electric
boat trips down the river.
