What is the Langport Area Development Trust?
The Langport Area Forum was formed in 2001 as part of the Market & Coastal Towns
Initiative. This initiative is a community-based approach to regenerating market
and coastal towns. This approach involves helping local communities to plan for
their future, build their skills and access the funding that will enable them to
start work tackling the projects that will make a real difference to their
locale.
The Langport Area Forum was established in January 2001 after two workshops
which were held with the Langport area community to identify issues for the
area. The LAF became the Langport Area Development Trust in April 2003.
What does it do?
LADT has
been working to improve the quality of life for people living in Langport and
the surrounding villages which make up the Forum area. There are four working
groups within the LADT - River, Youth &
Community, Tourism,
Economy & Heritage. All groups are made up from local
volunteers who have been working on a variety of regeneration projects,
both large and small scale, assisted by professional bodies such as South
Somerset District Council and led by our Project Worker. The LADT is the vehicle through which everyone in the
area can improve our lives by looking at what we need rather than waiting for
someone from outside to tell us what we should have. Working groups
undertake feasibility studies, formulating projects and then negotiating the
funding. The LADT is the means through which our community can take control of how
it develops and regenerates. Instead of asking "why don't they?"
the LADT is our opportunity to look at "how can we" .
